photoart: ralph murre The Side That Won
by Bruce Dethlefsen
a good ten thousand years ago
the peaceful branches of my family tree
were pruned off
withered
burned off
whatever
they were weak
they died they’re done
I come from purely killing stock
I eat meat
make war
compete
and when my species finds a tree
we crush it into paper
we write libraries of history
it’s so easy
I’m on the side that won
